Giraffe Center
The first stop is the Giraffe Center, the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife's headquarters, made famous by Daisy Rothschild. You'll have the unique experience of getting eye-level with a giraffe, allowing you to truly appreciate the size of these gentle creatures. The center also has an education area where you can learn about the breeding and conservation of Kenya's rare giraffe species, as well as their behaviors and traits, all from a raised observation platform.
Kazuri Beads Factory
Next, you'll visit the Kazuri Beads Factory, renowned for creating some of the most beautiful beads in the world. You'll witness the entire production process from start to finish. This factory is unique as it employs single mothers from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them earn a living to support their families. The factory produces pottery, ceramic items, and beads that are exported globally. There’s also a gift shop where you can purchase these handmade products. Please note that the workshop is closed on Saturday afternoons and Sundays, but the gift shop remains open all week.
Karen Blixem Museum
You will then be transported to the former colonial home of Danish author Karen Blixen, now a museum. This estate, along with the surrounding Ngong Hills, gained fame from her book "Out of Africa" and its subsequent film adaptation. It’s a must-visit for fans of African history, romance, and Danish culture. The tour will conclude with your return to the hotel at around 5:00 p.m.
